At the time, I, too, was trying to power up my tanka skills. I found a great online resource, but I cannot remember what it was at the moment. It provided a lot of direction, feedback from a group, and, of course, historical tanka. Can't wait to read yours!

Beautifully abstract and still seeming so earnestly personal at the same time. Like the recollections of some wandering spirit.. but much less cliched than that obviously!

Thanks, Rachel and Dhyan. They have certainly left a mark on me, though I doubt I've left very much of a mark on them. Perhaps through poetry some day?

"Forgive me if I speak of them fondly
as family, friends, and old dogs gone
off to die"
I love this! I like how you used the idea of places as creatures or objects.
I know I'll carry the memories of my places forever, though I always wonder if I've ever made a mark on them.

Yes, it's a throwback to William Carlos Williams, but I couldn't help it. While pumping gas one cold, rainy, night, I saw the gutter and wondered what he would've said about it.

Well, I did mean it metaphorically speaking, but maybe I should pick another disorder. I, too, am OCD, but that doesn’t really fit into this poem– unless it were about stalking or something.
