you are not some bulb
easily replaced by another
pulled from a shelf
and screwed to stay a while
so when your life-light burns low
and the final spark is blown
i will cling to you still
perhaps living in darkness
during the remainder of my days

I may be running out of things to say to tell you how much I enjoy your poetry. This is grade-A, Tel. Strong, strong, strong.
Forgive me if I simply say, “I love this.” It’s not my laziness or petty fluff. I mean it.
Thanks, Bryan. I’m thinking of pulling this Geography of Love into a chapbook.
the double entendre therein is great. really nice piece. thanks for sharing.
Glad you picked up on the double entendre. I couldn’t resist.
You have such a talent for making a small amount of words pack quite the punch. I really enjoyed this one!
Thank you for the kind words. Most of this stuff punches me as well, like this one did when it came from the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
beautiful beautiful work. Love this poem.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I found your site about a month ago. This was the first thing I read. It has stayed with me. Life had me in a WWF grip at the time, and I hadn’t the time to explore any further. Today, I had to search for it to savor it again. It’s incredibly clever & complex for such a short piece – homage; fear; acceptance (I realise that all of these may be thoroughly ‘off-course’ – but that is how it’spoke’ to me)
Actually, you are thoroughly on course. This is exactly how I intended it; I’m glad it not only resonated with you, but left a lengthy impact. I think that is what poetry was intended to do. If you’re interested, anything that is listed under the “Geography of Love” is going to be in line with this homage since it’s a collection of poetry for my partner of 10-years.
absolutely… nothing like a word feast on a staid friday night! if they’re anything like this one – i’m in real danger of becoming a serial comment leaver!
ps Tel… i appreciate that poor punctuation can be a real bugbear – but i can only hope that the content of my responses outweighs the constant slaughter of form! i’m compulsively lower case.
